About the Area

Coast/Beach

The East Neuk of Fife has many wonderful beaches all along its coastline, many of which are ideal for rock-pooling. There are numerous pretty fishing villages within minutes by car from Anstruther, which is in itself a delightful, bustling harbour.

Amongst the outstanding beaches are:

Kingsbarns (6 miles) - a blue flag beach with interesting rock pools
Elie (5 miles) - a wide flat beach where cricket is played (and an excellent pub)
St Andrews (10 miles) - East and West sands, good for kite flying
Anstruther Billow Ness - close to the golf course, good to explore at low tide

The Fife Coastal path, a favourite with walkers, runs the length of the East Neuk, from the Forth Estuary in the south to the Tay Estuary in the north. It is clearly waymarked and offers a range of walking experiences from the easy and level to the wild and demanding, passing through the small fishing villages of the East Neuk, rugged cliffs, award winning beaches, wildlife reserves and St Andrews.

Tentsmuir Forest and Nature Reserve near to St Andrews has stunning scenery and wildlife, where the forest goes right to the beach with its resident seals. Excellent for nature lovers, cyclists, walkers and horse riders.
